UP College of Engineering Library Staff Linux Training

The eBetaway facility at the basement of the Engineering Library is composed of 15 computers used mainly for word processing and web surfing. Due to the costly and virus-prone Microsoft Windows operating system, the Engineering Library staff coordinated with UnPLUG to convert the whole facility into Linux. UnPLUG converted the computers into Mandrake Linux, a user-friendly variant of Linux.

The conversion of the eBetaway facility to Linux needed training to familiarize the staff with Mandrake Linux. Thus, UnPLUG conducted a one-day training on Linux and OpenOffice.org on November 23, 2003 at the eBetaway facility. The training was attended by the entire staff of the Engineering library. The training covered topics on basic Linux usage and installation, system administration, and word processing and spreadsheet using OpenOffice.org.
