Open Sourcing UP is an annual seminar conducted to showcase the latest Open Source software technologies and UnPLUG activities. It is UnPLUG's grandest event.
Open Sourcing UP was the first large-scale seminar conducted by UnPLUG. It was held on February 23, 2004 at the UP College of Engineering Theater. The seminar was attended by 75 students, faculty, alumni, and professionals. It included a wide range of topics to cater a diverse set of audience: UP's shift to Open Source, why the computer science community should embrace Open Source, Latex, Python, LTSP, and face recognition. UnPLUG invited experts in various fields as guest speakers: IT Director Bobby Corpus of IDS Finance, Prof. Arnel Betan of UP Manila, and Dr. Ernesto Adorio and Dr. Augusto Hermosilla of UP Diliman. The guest of honor was UP President Francisco Nemenzo, an Open Source advocate. President Nemenzo also sponsored the event.
